A Sneak Peak

So I am going to be a missionary. Yep, that's right. I am moving to Honduras. Choluteca, Honduras to be exact. It is in the southern region on Honduras, about 3 hours from the capital, Tegucigalpa... Tegus as the local missionaries say. I will be working with a non-profit organization called Mission Lazarus. You should check out their website to read about all the cool stuff that they do... www.missionlazarus.org

The people I am working with are great! I interned in Honduras with them while I was in college and absolutely loved it. Allison Brown is the nurse practitioner and I will be taking over her current job, so that she can actually do what she got her masters in... mental health nurse practitioning. They are starting a children's home, called Las Palmas Refugio (The Palms Refuge), and Ally is going to run the counseling sessions for the kids.

I believe my new official title will be Clinic Administrator. I basically am going to run the mountain clinic. What exactly does that mean? Well, I think it is a nice concise title for a myriad of jobs and responsibilities. I will be overseeing the clinic staff (there is a doctor, nurse, pharmacy tech, evangelist, and a driver/handyman), their standards of care, and be physically present at the clinic at least once a week. I will be keeping inventory of the medications in the pharmacy both in the clinic and in the warehouse, facilitate medicinal donations from the US, and ordering meds in country. I will be recording monthly stats in regards to the number and type of patients seen at the clinic, their ailments and treatments. I will also plan monthly food provision and health education for the nutrition program recipients. And then, of course, I will be taking any opportunity to provide health education to anyone who will listen. I am sure there are a lot more responsibilities involved but these I think are the main ones.

I am so excited to move to Honduras I can hardly stand myself. Basically I am ready to pack up and leave, but you know there are all those responsible things that I have to take care of first. Fundraising... quiting my job... moving back to Portland... and all that good stuff. It will all get done though. I know it will because God is in control.

I added some pictures of Honduras and the kids that I will be working with... they are absolutely precious and make me want to move tomorrow!
