And right you are David...
I don't think most of you understand just how cool my life is... I mean maybe some people wouldn't like the idea of living in Honduras, but I can't imagine it any other way. It is interesting how God makes us, you know? I mean, God made me. He knit me together in my mother's womb. He placed the desires of my heart, into my heart. My desire to serve, to educate, to love. He is the one who took me on my first mission trip. He is the one I see in the eyes of the poor. He is the one who made it possible for me to live in Honduras... so, of course, I love it! How can I not, when God made it happen?
Many of you know that I live in the southern region of Honduras. Our offices are located 2 hours from Tegucigalpa, in a town called Choluteca. Choluteca sits 19 feet above sea level and is seriously hot. Choluteca is ugly and dirty, but it serves as a centralized location for our offices. We have projects all over the southern region, with Choluteca in the middle. This past month, with all the groups here from the US, I have had the chance to visit many of the projects and God has shown me just how cool He is! You would be amazed to see all that He is doing down here. And consequently, since God is so cool and has all these amazing works that I get to partake in... my life is pretty darn cool as well!
A short anecdote to prove my point...
On the first of August a medical brigade arrived from Indiana. Now, usually when we have medical brigades we try to keep them stationary. It is hard to move all those medications around every day. However, this poor medical brigade wasn't so lucky. The need for the brigade was so spread out that we moved from location to location daily. One of our locations was a particularly amazing experience! We had a request from one of our preachers, Roberto, to provide a medical brigade to an island that he has been evangelising to in the pacific... that's right, the pacific ocean. So, we packed up our medicine in plastic tubs, drove an hour to the beach, and crawled into four lanchas to begin our adventure into the pacific. What is a lancha you ask? Why it is a canoe with a motor on it, of course. To get to the island you have maneuver the boat up a canal with mangroves on either side (very national geographic like), and then all of a sudden you find yourself in the ocean! After steering around to the other side of the island we crawled back out of the lanchas and unloaded our medical supplies into the school house that was recently built on the island. Now for those of you who have seen "LOST," let me tell you that the island is very "LOST" like... well at least on the beach. These poor people don't have the cool mountains or crazy animals... but I digress. We worked until lunch time, attending to every single family on the island (over 200 people in all... which seems a lot for such a small island), and when the group was getting ready to stop and eat their sack lunches, out come these ladies with steaming hot plates of food. And what was on the plates you ask? Why it was fresh fried fish and plantains! The people of the island are fishermen. Catching fish is their livelihood, and they saved enough fish from the morning's catch to feed all 30 of us gringos. For the record, the food was amazing! The setting was amazing! The people were amazing! God is amazing! The people were greatly encouraged by the medical brigade and Roberto continues to evangelize to the island of Guipo.
When in your life would you ever travel down a mangrove canal in southern Honduras to provide medical consults to an island of fishermen, their wives and children in the Pacific Ocean? How cool is that? Sounds crazy though, right? And yet, its not, its all in God's plan. It's an amazing peace I feel, when I live within the will of God.
